Achievements for 2010
In our January newsletter we highlighted our goals for 2010. Since we are halfway through the year already, we thought it a good idea to bring you up to speed as to what XDSL has achieved to date.

Not only have we reached our goals, but we have implemented niche solutions and products that are very unique.

These solutions and products not only bring the total cost of ownership down but also gives our customers a variety of options.

Aim Achievement
Obtain additional SEACOM capacity Not only have we obtained SEACOM capacity, but we are also looking at different upstream providers for load balancing and failover
Obtain capacity from new undersea fibre cables that will be completed this year Fibre has not been made available yet
Connect our customers to these upstream providers without touching Telkom’s infrastructure. So the days of “best effort service” will be gone and the days of best service will be here. We have rolled out a wireless network from Hammanskraal → JHB Central → Vereeniging→ Krugersdorp → Carletonville. On this network we supply uncapped dedicated Internet access, which means that you can for instance have a 5MB dedicated 1:1 (no contention) Internet connection from your business
Increase our capacity with another 150% Currently we have increased our traffic with 30%
Launch redundant network platforms for customers for added and better uptime. Especially for our corporate customers Our wireless network is also great for redundancy. In fact the service is so great that our customers use it as their main link and use their existing infrastructure as their redundant link
Improve our Storage Area Network with better technology This will only be implemented early next year
Launch Windows Hosting Have started with providers
Launch our much improved control panel for hosting management Our new XAPI system is approximately 75% finished and should be completed in 2-3 months
Implement IPC over fibre to our new hosting facility This is scheduled for later this year
Metro Ethernet for greater scalability on local bandwidth This will be implemented in 3-4 months time
Increase user base for economies of scale Still very much on the right track
Launch excellent voice solutions We have not only launched a VOIP solution, but are one of the first companies to launch a hosted PBX solution. This means that the customers do not even need a PBX onsite but can have all the functionality of an Enterprise PBX
Increase staff productivity and capability to deliver better and faster support We have started implementing the international ITUL standards for better productivity and support
